Arbroath Provincial Silver:-

Arbroath or to give it its ancient name "Aberbrothock" is an assay office with little documented notes on the Silversmiths who worked there.

Andrew Davidson is by far the most well known and worked between 1835 and 1850. The other silversmith known to Arbroath was George Ritchie who not only made silver but was known to have retailed the work of Andrew Davidson.

Other names considered to have worked from Arbroath are:
Barrie & Christie, George Black , Alexander Glenny , John Templeton , J.T Thomson.

The Arbroath Portcullis used on silver hallmarks

  Arbroath coat of Arms.

The Arbroath burgh seal on which the silver hallmark symbol was based.

Below are a few examples of Arbroath Silver hallmarks:-

 Andrew Davidson C1835

  George Ritchie C1835
